Sigiriya- A Journey to the Sky

Sigiriya- A Journey to the Sky

24,February 2026

πŸ’’If there is one place in Sri Lanka that truly feels magical, it is Sigiriya. I had seen photos and videos before, but visiting it in real life was a completely different experience. The moment I stood in front of that massive rock rising  into the sky, I feel like I was looking at one of the wonders of the world.

Sigiriya is not just a rock. It is a story carved into stone. According to history, it was built by King Kashypa in the 5th century as his royal palace and fortress. Even today, people are amazed at how such advanced architecture and engineering were possible during that time.

πŸ’€Climbing Sigiriya feels like a small adventure. step by step, as you go higher, the surrounding greenery, lakes, and villages become more beautiful. There is a moment of excitement when you reach the famous Lion Gate- the giant lion paws the once formed the entrance to the palace.

🎨One of the most fascinating parts is the Sigiriya Frescoes- ancient painting of women that are still vibrant after centuries. The Mirror Wall is another incredible feature. Long ago, it was polished so well that the king could see his reflection. Today, you  can still find ancient poems written on it by visitors from centuries ago.

πŸŒ„Reaching the summit is the best reward. The ruins of the royal palace, pools, and gardens shows how
advanced the design was. The cool wind and the breathtaking 360-degree view make all the effort worth it. it feels peaceful, powerful, and unforgettable.

πŸ’—A Personal Thought

Sigiriya reminded me that the best views come after the hardest climbs. Just like life - you need effort to reach beautiful places.
